Skipping  for dancers

Akram Khan was on the fabulous BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs on Sunday 23rd July.

Amongst the many skills required of top-flight contemporary and classical dancers, including poise, grace and great core strength, dancers also need impressive stamina levels to boot. Dancers usually spend many hours practising in the dance studio to develop these skills and strength, but, in the face of recent injury, Akram Khan looked for another way to maintain his impressive stamina levels and core strength.

Akram said that he would take his skipping rope as his luxury item on the BBC's fabled Desert Island Discs this Sunday. Along with one favourite piece of music, the Bible or Koran and a favourite book, interviewees are also asked what luxury item they would take along with them, that might make life just a little more bearable on the Desert Island and Akram Khan said " My skipping rope has been my saviour recently" and chose to take a rope over more personal items.
